A stroll along the border between Italy and Slovenia, sipping a glass of excellent Friulian wine. Until 2004, the transalpine town of Gorizia was divided by a little wall that represented the border between Italy and Slovenia, taken down when the latter joined the European Union. The atmosphere of Gorizia is unchanged, however, and it is still a border town, where different cultures and traditions blend into a unique contamination. After a wall in the splendid parks of the city – also known as the “Nice of the Adriatic” for its pleasantly mild climate, lovers of fashion really should not miss a visit to the Museum of fashion and applied arts. Those who love fine wines would do well to visit some of the many cellars of Collio: near the town some of the most famous wines of the region are produced, such as white Ribolla, Refosco, Picolit and Istrian Malvasia.
