The remote towns on the right side of the River Tagliamento can have many (pleasant) surprises, especially for the ones who want to lose themselves in the atmosphere of a flat land which is often sparsely populated, peaceful and rich in art and culture. Let’s start from Casarsa della Delizia: at the Centro Studi Pier Paolo Pasolini (located in via Guidalberto Pasolini, 4, telephone number +39 0434 870593) it is possible to visit the house where the writer, coming from Bologna, had lived in years particularly important for his education, which means the years of the Second World War. Here the rooms of Pier Paolo’s family can be visited (even the room repainted by him with the colors of the beloved football team Bologna), and many paintings and watercolors by Pasolini, as well as rare books from those years. In the countryside, south to Casarsa, the little Middle-Age church in Versutta (keys available on spot), which presents inside old paintings that Pasolini himself revealed, under successive layers of color, during the period in which his mother moved to this small town to escape from the dangers of the Allied bombings, giving life to the educational and poetic experience with the academy called “Academiuta furlana” From Versutta, in few minutes by car the old town in San Vito al Tagliamento can be reached, dominated by the austere bulk of the bell tower from 16th Century, projected by Giovanni Antonio de’ Sacchis, nicknamed “Il Pordenone”, great Renaissance artist. A few steps away, in the interesting recently refurbished building of the Castle, there is the little Historic Archeological Museum dedicated to the local artist Federico de Rocco. In the main square of the town, there are other two jewels available for visit: next to the Loggia, the theater Giangiacomo Arrigoni, a small but elegant theater (which can be visited on advanced booking by calling +39 0434 833295), whose use is documented from 1600. And finally, Palace Altan Rota, location of the town hall, result of a fascinating series of buildings over the centuries, right next to the walls built at the time of Aquileia’s Patriarchs, surrounded by a beautiful public park, with ancient plants.
