By Nicola Santini - bon ton and etiquette expert, author of NON LO FACCIO PIU’
There is always time for things that last forever and we have talked about it enough lately. Let's take a few whims off this round by taking a peek at the trends that closely mark the season that most stimulates us. Let's start with denim: it never goes away, but when it comes back it always has something new. Woe to be left behind. The old pair of jeans will not be enough – do not throw them away - but let's bet on a total look: jacket or coat, shirt and trousers. The choice is endless: high or low waisted, more adherent or soft but never oversized. All day long. With the classic, brand new and elegant shoe, a good watch and a scarf or an accessory that screams chic, this is the solution of the moment; with the comfortable boat shoe, the t-shirt that is visible under the shirt tied at the waist, the oversized glasses and the colored bag, this it is the outfit for the first weekends at the beach.
Fringes: from head to toe we will see them a little everywhere, so let's try to understand the ones that best match our outfits. As a discreet reference (so to speak) on a clutch bag, it makes even the most regimental look current, on the jacket it peeps out in the sleeves or on the back, in the most generous bags it is a competition to see who makes them flutter more. Bon ton note: don't get carried away, if you really like it, remember to wear one "fringed" piece at a time.
Fluo: not as a nostalgia for the 80s but as a contemporary desire to get out of so much greyness. Yellows, greens, fuchsia and their exciting power on bags, shoes, accessories and some outfits, they are the must have of the season. Combined with more traditional beiges, grays and blues as well as mixed with absolute white to make sure you don't go unnoticed.
Lines: horizontal, vertical, contrasting, or ton sur ton. Mini or maxi. As long as they are present. On tops, t-shirts, jackets and trousers. For the more daring, even overlapping. In the classic version of BB in Saint Tropez a t-shirt with raw-cut jeans is enough, in the more Madame one, perhaps as a top and combined with a blue blazer, you will instantly feel like Coco Chanel.
Miniskirt: last but not least, an appreciated return. Playing with proportions, it is now accepted for all ages and sizes. Prejudices banished: the mini is worn with oversized jackets, sweatshirts, trench coats or even with thick stockings combined with a tone-on-tone turtleneck. You don't need courage but a good overview. Because getting dressed is not just covering up.
