Bon Ton & Scarves

Women, men and scarves: 10 ways to love and respect them till “noose do us apart”.

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”. I do believe in this quote so much that I printed it and put it on the fridge (hoping that will be of any use..).

All this just to introduce what represents “the comfort zone” in the wardrobe, the survival kit, the top suffering comforters ,i.e. the scarf.

Scarves are objects to love just because they don’t take too much space in the closet and can give a touch of class to the most ordinary outfit. It also represents by itself the break between a daylight and an evening look and if u know how to wear it without looking like an exorcist or an hanged man it can be very useful and classy.

Silk or velvet satin, with precious insertions on a classic and not too serious suit or sheath dress, it can change the appeal in one second: add a red lipstick and a suitable pair of shoes and you won’t need to get changed.

Big, tricot-like or in warm smooth fabric it can easily be worn instead of an overcoat in the warm days.

And for men, together with the tie, it can represent the colorful note on a traditional blue or camel coat, making winter look less cold and more multi colored.

And even when we want to wear important fashion brands, you have one assurance in proportion: small investment big return.

Let’s now see how to wear a scarf properly, because even a scarf has its own bon ton .

  1. You don’t wear a scarf inside the clothes unless it’s an outfit accessory made as such, but only in certain occasions and with a specific look ( i.e. we close an eye if it has been shown on the catwalk like that).
  2. Let’s not be tempted by half measures : the effect has to be super casual or very elegant (i.e. it should look accidentally worn or every single inch should be checked up in order to make an impression).
  3. A scarf is not an arbre magique so it’s not advisable to soak it in perfume. It’s nice if it reminds of us but not of the perfume where we soak it in which by the way doesn’t take the laundry place from time to time.
  4. Let’s try to avoid the “ the one that always wears scarves” effect. We can have thousands of them but let’s try not to be compulsive : quality and extravagance always win!
  5. When we sit always leave the scarf on the back of the chair never on the seat.
  6. If temperatures are bitter cold and we cover our mouth with the scarf let’s make an effort to uncover it when it comes to greeting people or introduce ourselves.
  7. Remember that the “turkey effect” is always around the corner so before a purchase it’s advisable to try it on, check size and proportion carefully and understand if the colors and patterns have the same effect on us when we wear it ( often it doesn’t ).
  8. Scarves should have a light and elegant impact on our bodies : we definitely have to avoid big volumes under coats and jackets considering all the efforts we make to fit in.
  9. If we decide to gift someone with a scarf bought during an exotic trip, we should remember that 99% of times it just fits in the Country we bought it, even if it’s the same place where the ones we find in boutiques that sell goods with a much more similar taste to ours are made. Ethnic seldom suits.
  10. And last but not least : scarf given = scarf donated , it’s not a rule but we all know how it ends.
